No matter what your dog may be suffering from, a soft tissue injury, a broken bone or a degenerative disease, you can provide your dog with a better longer life and living pain free and a normal life.
Many common joint, bone, and soft tissue problems are:
The goal is to provide everything healthy and clean for your pets. A clean diet, filtered water, chemical free environment, and in-home removal of chemicals along with supplements to keep them going every day.
My approach to a healthy jubilant pain free dog is:

Diagnosis
Many times pet parents take their dog in when limping or in pain. The veterinarian does not do any tests (blood work, x-rays) and sends you home with pain meds. The vet guesses it is a sprain or maybe it is just arthritis. That vet JUST put you off! That vet could care less what is wrong with your dog and only wants to keep selling you pain meds cause every vet will send you home with these high risk medications such as Rimadyl or possibly even steroids. And you are left with a dog in pain and still no answers. Find a new vet immediately if this happens to you. You want a vet that will do blood work to rule out diseases that cause limping and pain, possibly palpitate the area in which the dog is showing pain and x-rays of that area. These tests, will in most cases, will give you answers. You need the answers so you can tackle the problem head on. |
Reduce Inflammation and Pain When you have a new injury, there will be a lot of inflammation in which also causes pain. Many things you can do for this is to add a mix of anti-inflammatory herbs into the daily foods. Also, use moist heat and cold packs. Cold packs the first 72 hours then switch to alternating moist heat packs and cold packs to reduce swelling and pain. If you have a chronic condition such as arthritis, using the moist heat packs works well. If you have overworked the joint with arthritis, you need to use cold packs at first. Normally if it is a new injury, you may need to use medications for pain the first couple of days. Once you begin to see the dog being more comfortable and starting to show more activity, pain meds may be reduced or stopped, but you also need to continue the anti-inflammatory herbs (such as CanineActiv) in slightly higher amounts along with stronger joint supplements. This is the most painful time for a dog so reducing the swelling and inflammation is important. |
Repair and Restore
To help repair and restore bone and tissue, it is important to use the right supplements. This is where I find that polysulfated glycosaminoglycan (PSGAG) or better known as Adequan injections, and Cyplexinol are good additions. These two are my favorites and I have found them to be extremely helpful in both of my dogs with joint issues. Adequan injections is a synthetic form of glucosamine but yet works on a much higher level than you could ever give orally. It has saved one of my dog's lives. Without it, she was on 4 different pain medications being given every two hours and it was barely knocking the edge off. Now with these injections that I give at home every 3 weeks, has saved her life and given her a pain free happy jubilant normal life.
Cyplexinol also known in supplements such as TRF 150/350 or Ostinol 150/350/450 that are specific for bone and tissue healing, repairing and restoring damaged tissue. This supplement is the one thing that has kept my other girl moving and without so much pain. She does fairly well. She is in need of hip surgery now as it is starting to work on her other limbs and cause more issues. Without, she can't hardly even move much less walk. With this supplement, she is able to live a fairly normal life. She also gets Adequan injections but she has always gotten these. It was when I added the Cyplexinol that I started to see some good results. She will continue to receive this supplement as long as she is alive. Same for my other girl that gets the Adequan injections. These are lifelines for my two dogs. To further your knowledge in repairing and restoring, look into PRP and Stem Cell treatments. |
Lubricate Joints need lubricating. As we age, our cartilage starts to wear and bones begin to rub together, causing arthritis and bone degeneration. Even in young healthy dogs, they need that extra lubrication to help prevent future joint and soft tissue problems and avoid arthritis. A diet is crucial with bones and tissue staying healthy. To keep joints lubricated, give Glucosamine type supplements daily. I find a good mix of several ingredients that works the best. There are many good supplements for joints but having a nice mix of different ingredients allows the body to work. If one isn't doing its job so well, the others will pick up the load and work for your dog. Using therapies such as Hydrotherapy, Acupuncture, Laser therapy, PRP, Stem Cell, Chiropractic, and many other therapies along with daily short walks can benefit your dog on many levels to help keep him/her mobile. Keeping active without overdoing it is the key to health. For sprains and strains, using a brace is best so it can help restrict movement for best healing purposes. Canine Arthritis And Joint © |
